how am I helping the planet by choosing vegan?

whether your diet is fully plant based or you’re just lightening your planetary load by choosing vegan food once a week, here’s how you’re helping:

  • you’re saving water: Meat production requires a much higher amount of water than vegetables. producing 1kg of meat requires between 5,000 and 20,000 litres of water whereas to produce 1kg of wheat requires between 500 and 4,000 litres of water.

  • you’re saving wildlife: without meat and dairy consumption, global farmland use could be reduced by more than 75% and still feed the world. Loss of wild areas to agriculture is the leading cause of the current mass extinction of wildlife.

  • you’re lowering carbon emissions: a study shows 51% of worldwide greenhouse-gas emissions can be attributed to animal agriculture, specifically to cattle, buffalo, sheep, goats, camels and pigs which are raised and killed for food.
